Institut für Hoehere Studien

The Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) was established in 1963 as a private, not-for-profit, independent policy-oriented research institution on the initiative of Paul F. Lazarsfeld and Oskar Morgenstern with the objective to become a key provider of policy oriented economic and social research and post-graduate training. IHS comprises three departments: Economics and Finance, Sociology and Political Science. It is a leading centre of contracted social science research in Austria, delivering theoretically grounded empirical research reports (approaching 400 in number since 2000).


IHS carries out basic and applied research and post-graduate training in economics (Masters), sociology and political science. The Institute provides economic forecasts, policy advice and technical assistance for public authorities and private business entities in both EU and transition economies. IHS staff and visiting professors are drawn from Europe, North Americas and beyond. The Institute has managed and participated in numerous projects within the EU Framework Programmes


Its main tasks in SERVICEGAP will be to develop and update measures competition and of regulation in professional services in WP2.
